About country/nation names

Melodic endings carry these results, with "Sheonia" and "Fuglucia" wearing the -ia of real atlas entries and "Yuthuiwana" stretching longer and more remote. Nation names get spoken constantly in fiction, in treaties, demonyms, and border disputes, so read your shortlist aloud first. An -ia ending implies an old state, while consonant-final results feel younger or more isolated.

How country/nation names are built

Country names are syllable chains with no feature words, yielding single nation names. A standard template joins an onset, a vowel, a cluster, a vowel and an ending, so l + a + sh + a + na gives Lashana and c + e + sh + a + tan gives Ceshatan. A rarer template produces a two-word form like Plael cror by chaining a second cluster after a space.

  • Lashana

    l (onset) + a (vowel) + sh (cluster) + a (vowel) + na (ending)

  • Ceshatan

    c (onset) + e (vowel) + sh (cluster) + a (vowel) + tan (ending)

  • Plael cror

    pl (cluster) + ae (vowel) + l + cr + or

Naming notes

Six small banks feed the templates: a 22-entry onset bank, a 4-entry vowel bank, a 25-entry cluster bank, a 29-entry vowel bank, a 49-entry ending bank and a 33-entry ending bank. The ending banks supply forms like -ines, -ia, -tan and -esh. Lengths stay moderate. Reserve the rare two-word template for a federation or union.

Questions about country/nation names

How are country names generated?
They are chained syllables from six banks with no descriptor, ending on a piece from one of the two ending banks. A less common template adds a second word after a space.
How long are the chains?
A standard chain joins five pieces (onset, vowel, cluster, vowel, ending); shorter and two-word templates also exist, keeping lengths moderate.
When should I use the two-word names?
Save forms like Plael cror for a federation or twin-realm state so they stand out from the single-word countries around them.
