About crabs names

Puns and sound effects drive these results, from the groaner "Sellfish" to literal-minded picks like "Pinchy" and "Clacky" that describe what the animal actually does. They suit a classroom hermit crab, an aquarium stream mascot or the comic sidekick in a beach-town story. Say the favorite out loud a few times, since a pet name only sticks if it survives daily repetition.

How crabs names are built

Each crab result is a single drawn label, never a compound, pulled from one of two flat pools: a 199-entry pool of agentive or surname-shaped forms and a 134-entry pool of softer suffixed coinages. A draw lands wholesale, so "Surfrider" and "Coralson" come straight from the first list while "Tidette" and "Crabella" come from the second. There is no first-plus-last assembly here; the whole name is one bank entry.

  • Wrench

Wrench (single draw from the agentive pool)

  • Tidette

Tidette (single draw from the suffixed pool)

  • Crabella

Crabella (single draw from the suffixed pool)

Naming notes

Read the two pools as registers rather than name parts. The first leans into beach-agent imagery (rider, son, surf compounds) and reads as nicknames or clan handles, while the second takes diminutive and ornamental endings (-ette, -ella) that sound like pet or character names. Because each pool is shallow and self-contained, pick the pool that matches tone first: a gruff dock crab versus a dainty tide-pool one. Genders are neutral throughout, so nothing in the draw forces a he or she.

Questions about crabs names

Why do some crab names sound like surnames and others like pet names?
Two separate pools feed the generator. The 199-entry pool holds agentive and surname-shaped forms like Surfrider and Coralson, while the 134-entry pool holds softer suffixed coinages like Tidette and Crabella, so the register depends on which pool the draw came from.
Are crab names ever combined into a first and last name?
No. Every result is one whole entry from a single pool. Unlike layered generators, there is no template that joins the two pools, so Wrench stays Wrench rather than becoming Wrench Tidette.
Do crab names carry a gender?
No. The set is tagged neutral across both pools, so a name like Crabella or Wrench applies to any crab character without implying male or female.
