About dragon names
Anatomy gets assembled piece by piece, with wings that are "almost butterfly-like" or skin that "seems to glow as if made from fire itself" and "Dark ruby eyes" set deep in a bony skull. One output covers one body region, so roll for head, wings, limbs, and tail separately and the beast that emerges will not match anyone else's.
How dragon names are built
This is not a name generator but a description builder. Eight sentence templates each cover one body region, head, ears and jaw, snout and teeth, neck and torso, underbelly, limbs, wings, and tail, and fill in slots from 34 trait banks (eye colour, horn count, wing membrane, talon material and more). Roll each region and the eight sentences compose into one beast that will not match anyone else's.
Within the creature's plated, plated skull, its slanted storm grey eyes sit slung low and lend the whole face a cast that is patient.
region: head + traits: skull texture + eye colour + placement + temperament cast
the head sentence fixes mood; deep-set eyes read as docile here
From low along the flanks sprout frost-rimed wings that finish well past the tail, their surface veined with light, mottled in greys and browns and barely able to lift the beast.
region: wings + traits: placement + size + membrane detail + colouring + lift
the wing sentence chooses span, membrane and bone-tip shape
Carrying it all are a pair of plated limbs that let the beast hold itself towering and low to the ground; each ends in five digits, and each digit in splintered hooks that look cast from smoothed flint.
region: limbs + traits: count + hide + posture + digit count + talon material
limb material ranges across bone, crystal and metal
Naming notes
Because every region is independent, you control the silhouette: pair butterfly-like wings with a bony skull, or massive scaled limbs with delicate crystal growths. Talons can be bone, crystal or metal; eyes sit deep in the skull and set the creature's apparent temperament from docile to terrifying. Treat the output as a checklist for art direction or a stat-block flavour line rather than a single string.
Questions about dragon names
- Does this generate dragon names too?
- No, it builds physical descriptions. Each pull returns prose covering one body region, so you assemble a full creature by rolling head, wings, limbs and tail separately.
- How do I describe one complete dragon?
- Roll once for each region and read the sentences in order: head, jaw, snout, neck and torso, underbelly, limbs, wings, tail. The eight independent rolls combine into a single distinct beast.
- Can I control how menacing the dragon looks?
- Partly. The head sentence carries a temperament slot that ranges from docile and merciful to terrifying and savage, and deep-set versus forward eyes shift the read. Re-roll the head until the mood fits.
