About plant names

Each description pairs a Latin sounding binomial such as "Dionaea Incarnata" or "Galactia Peltatum" with notes on where it grows, when it flowers, and how it fights back, down to stinging hairs "like a nettle". Stitch a few results together to build one complete species entry for an herbalist's journal or an alchemy table in your campaign. Lines about rarity make good pricing logic for ingredient shops.

How plant names are built

This builds a plant's field-guide entry, not a name alone. Sentence templates cover how it is pollinated and what the spent blooms set (glassy berries, barbed burrs, whistling gourds), the leaves and flower colour, how fast it spreads and how it is kept, and the uses of its fruit, petals, pollen and spores, drawing from around 20 banks. The flower-colour sentence stacks several hue slots from 35-entry pools. Roll a region and read its sentence as one line of botanical lore.

  • Pollinated by wading marsh birds, the spent blooms harden into barbed burrs that ride out on the hide of any beast.

region: pollination and seed + slots: pollinator + seed form + dispersal

  • Its towering, antler-forked leaves show wine-dark, while the thimble-small flowers come in amber, magenta, magenta, plum and plum.

region: leaves and flower colour + slots: leaf size + leaf shape + leaf colour + flower size + hues

  • Powdered fine, the pollen blinds an attacker for a slow ten count.

region: uses + slots: preparation + part + effect

Naming notes

Use it as a herbarium card you assemble region by region: pollination and seed, foliage and flower colour, growth and spread, uses. The uses sentence is the flavour hook, 'Boiled in milk, the petals coax sleep' or 'Powdered fine, the pollen blinds an attacker for a slow ten count', so reroll it to make a plant a remedy or a hazard for a scene.

Questions about plant names

Does this name plants or describe them?
It describes them. Each pull is one field-guide sentence covering the plant's pollination and seed, leaves and flower colours, growth and spread, or the uses of its fruit, petals, pollen and spores; pair it with the plant name generator if you need a species label.
How do I build one complete plant entry?
Roll each region once: pollination and seed, leaves and flower colour, growth and spread, uses. The lines combine into one herbarium card; add a name from the plant name generator to head it.
Can I use these in my game or novel?
Yes. The uses sentence is a built-in hook, 'Powdered fine, the pollen blinds an attacker' versus a gentle 'Boiled in milk, the petals coax sleep', so reroll it to make a plant a hazard or a remedy for the scene.
